- In rendering just regard for the word of God, all the disciples of the LORD (students, learners) must have the biblical knowledge how to interpret rightly the word of God by accurately dividing, or dissecting, or explaining the word of truth (2Tim.2:15) according to the explicit word of the LORD JESUS, and not by assertion of personal opinion, certainly because opinion can never be the premise of the written word of God.
- In English-Apologetics is the branch of theology which deals with the defensive facts (Ph.1:7) and proofs of Christianity.
- We must render high regard for the written word of God: by preaching the word in “season and out of season, and reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine” (2 Tim.4:2), This is “ homeletikos” in Greek word, homiletics in English, i.e. delivery of sermons.
- It is a reality that exist now, that so many sectarian churches had spread out in many nations, their erroneous doctrines contrary to the absolute truth of the doctrines of the LORD JESUS. The situation of spiritual warfare probably happen; the war of Truth against falsehood. But we wrestle not against flesh and blood (Ep.6:13). To have just regard for the word of God, we must always have in mind, that it is written; “(For our weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds:)Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of CHRIST: And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”(2Cor.10:5-6).
- These eventualities is polemeo in Greek word, polemics in English-polemic adj. Gk. Polemikos- polemos war. The art or practice of disputation; especially the use of aggressive argument to refute errors of doctrine; that all may know that the doctrine of the LORD JESUS is the only true standard doctrine for all and for ever (De.32:1-2).
- Therefore if we really have dignified regard for the word of God, we will continue to be spiritually nourish by the enlightening words of the LORD JESUS; and sincerely cherish His words that lead us to know the truth, that set us free from the bondage of falsehood,(Jn.8:31-32).
- We should not reject the LORD JESUS and His words, if anyone intently reject Him and His words, it will precisely be intentional negation of the Most Valuable Person in all of reality, the LORD JESUS and His words, (Pr.13:13; Jn.12:48).
- This is a precaution, that we may consistently avoid incurring judgment on ourselves; alteration of the written word of God is a grievous sin, we have to consider seriously, that it is a mandatory prohibition of the LORD, not to add, or subtract any word from the entire written Holy Scriptures (De.4:2; Pr.30:6; Rev.22:18-19).
- It is written, “that faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God” (Ro.10:17) and in hearing we must have enthusiastic relentless will, to be doer of what we have learned from the graciously edifying words of the LORD JESUS to be wise, and pleasing to Him (Lk.6:46-49). By diligent will, and courageous disposition to keep on adhering to the written Biblical instructions, these are the Biblical principles how to render just regard for the word of God (De.8:3; Mt.4:4;Lk.44).
THE JUST REGARD FOR THE WORD OF GOD
Part 1
The word
of God is the most important; gracious, life sustaining, edifying, wisdom
sharing, enlightening, and rightly directing eternal words for all, that will
never pass away (Mt.24:35).
The LORD
JESUS who alone among the Triune LORD GOD, is the “PERSONAL,SINGULAR,
EXCLUSIVELY, SELF REVEALING GOD,” gave instructions to Israel through Moses: “And He humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger,
and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know;
that He might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by
every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD that man
live”(De.8:3).
When the
LORD JESUS came as the incarnated God the Son in His first advent; and in His
Messianic function, He instructively declared again for all how can we
existentially live: “It is written, man shall
not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of
God”(Mt.4:4; Lk.4:4).
He also
gave meaningful, favorable, and declarative suggestion for the wellbeing of
all, “Labour not for the meat which perisheth,
but for the meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man
shall give unto you; for him hath God the Father sealed”(Jn.6:27).
Labour
in Greek original text of the written word of God is (ergazomai) meaning to
toil, as a task, occupation, etc.), minister about, trade (by) work. The LORD
JESUS in His teachings impart for us figurative lessons: He disclosed clearly,
that by His eternal words that we can truly have life extension, leading to
everlasting life (Mt.4:4;Lk.4:4;Jn.6:27) but not by perishable food which
within a day in the intestinal organ will be transformed as feces or dung.
Thus, we
will surely live by trusting Him and obeying His words that He had given for
us, to keep it in our heart and mind all the days of our lives here in this
finite world; until we be with Him forever through His given eternal life
(Jn.10:27;11:25).
The LORD
JESUS righteously deal with us by His eternal words (Mt.24:35;Mk.13:31;
Lk.21:33).
By His
powerful word, He can perform tremendous miracles, e.g.The dead man Lazarus
had been four days in the grave, but by JESUS great miracle, he marvelously
lived again, (Jn.11:44).When the LORD JESUS came near to the grave and “ cried
with a loud voice, Lazarus come forth”, and Lazarus came forth by the powerful
voice of the LORD JESUS CHRIST(Jn.11:43-44).
No one
else in this finite world among all human kind, neither angels have powerful
words with magnificent capability to raise the dead; the LORD JESUS alone
immanently have it, because He is God who can do all things (Mt
.19:26;Mk.10:27).
Precisely,
by His absolute word of truth, that if we believe Him, and unwaveringly
trusted in Him, by following His rightly directing instruction to depart from
sin, that though we die, we will live again as He assuredly promised. “JESUS said unto her (to Martha), I am the
resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead yet
shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die.
Believest thou this?” (Jn.11:25-26).
Now, how
can we render just regard for His words? It will depend on how we sincerely
acknowledge, appreciate, and believe the words of the LORD JESUS that He had
spoken, that were already written in Hebreo Judeo- Christian Holy Bible
(Jn.6:63;20:31).
To do
justice to the LORD JESUS, we must faithfully adhere to His words, and not
despise it (Pr.13:13); “Whoso despiseth the
word shalt be destroyed; but he that feareth the commandment shall be
rewarded”.
Through
the spoken and written word of God, there are explicit words that instructed
us how to obtain the benevolent grace of the LORD, or how His righteous
judgment and wrath be rendered to those who will refuse and rebel, and be
contrary against Him (Is.1:19:20; Lev.26:1-46; De.28:15-68).
According
to the given awareness of Peter, the Apostle of the LORD, “Many that are
unlearned and unstable wrest as they do also the other scriptures unto their
own destruction”(2Pe.3:15-16). Therefore, if we are true disciples of the LORD
JESUS, "matetes" in Greek word-matheites in pronunciation that denotes learner, student, hence, we must study enthusiastically to be “approved to GOD, a
workman need not be ashamed, rightly dividing,” explaining, expounding or
dissecting the word of truth, (2Tim.2:15).
For all
learners of the word of God, to learn the Holy Scriptures that can make us
wise unto Salvation, is of great significance; and for all who really love the
LORD JESUS CHRIST the LOGOS in Greek word, that mean Living Word
(Jn.1:1;Heb.4:12;Rev.19:13) to whom we must render just regard for Himself and
for His words, that He had spoken, and written for the edification of all in
the finite reality, that all may obtain His Eternal Salvation(Heb.5:9).
All the
commandments, teachings, counsels, instructions, prohibitions and disciplinary
mandate, specially His judgments are words from the mouth of the LORD JESUS
that had been written, and it is precisely authored by Him alone, as willed by
God the Father in their Eternal Purpose (Ep.3:11).
Though
we don’t have glorious reality
of seeing the LORD JESUS personally yet, nevertheless, “His word is a lamp unto our feet, and a
light unto our path”(Ps119:105); and He is the light
of the world (Jn.8:12).
We have
sorrowful moments, reasonably because, many students in Bible Studies “Ought to be teachers, but need that one teach them
again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are such as
have need of milk and not of strong meat. For everyone that use milk is
unskillful in
the word of righteousness for he is a
babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are full of age, even to those
who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and
evil”(Heb.5:12-14).
If we
really love the LORD JESUS in sincerity (Ep.6:24) and in truth,(2Cor.13:8); we
will joyfully keep His words, then His Father will love us, and they will
dwell in us(Jn.14:23).
Now, we
must have known how to render just regard for the word of God through the
enumerated biblical principles hereof:
(2)
Interpretations that have contradiction against any written commandments,
statutes, judgments, testimonies, counsels, doctrines or instructions within
the whole written word of God, cannot be acceptable interpretation, because
all the written word of God have absolute congruity, orderliness,
complimentary statements, and true testimonies of the LORD JESUS
(Luke.24:44; Rev.19:10).
In the
Greek word, an explainer of the word of God is [diermeneutes];and diermeneou
is hermeneutics in English, that means, how to explain the word of God
thoroughly, and correctly. Therefore, it is our just regard for the word of
God to wisely interpret it according to the exact, affirmative, and accurately
defined meaning of the written word of God from the original written words in
Hebrew and Greek, with translated definitions in English.(2Pe.1:20).
“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of
the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in
old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by
the Holy Ghost “(2Pe.1:20-21).
Opinion
for the word of God is private interpretation that frequently contradict,
distort, and perniciously twist or wrest the truthfulness of the word of God
(2Pe.3:15-16).
(3) We
must be Biblically equipped of the knowledge of the truth, to be well prepared
in our defense for the indubitable veracity of all the written word of God
thereby as the Holy Scriptures inspired by God (2Tim. 3:16), and as the
testimony of the LORD JESUS (Rev.19:10).This is the Biblical apologetics- defense for the true
revelations of the word of God, and the Gospel, against anyone who will
maliciously malign, contravene, and scornfully mock the Holy Scriptures.
( 4)
Apologetics is apologia” in Greek word, a plea “apology” answer ( for
self),clearing of self, defense. i.e. exculpate (self)-answer for (self) make
defense (Ac.22:1;25:29) a justification or defense. It does not mean to ask
forgiveness.
